Concert Summary

Get comfortable, 'cuz all the stories are true - the E Street Band came to play, and they're not gonna stop until the roof caves in! This is powerful rock 'n' roll revivalism and Springsteen makes the heat rain down upon the assembled Winterland parishioners.

Years before punk deconstructed popular music as a violent protest against the bloated rock 'n' roll dinosaurs staggering from stadium to stadium, Bruce Springsteen was earnestly providing his own alternative to bone-headed riffing and cowbell solos,…entire summary

The concert that I have always said is THE most amazing concert of my entire life, exceeding the Stones, Zeppelin, the Who, Jethro Tull, and everyone else, a concert I almost didn’t go to, was the December 20, 1978 E Street Band concert at the Seattle Arena.

Everything about the concert was magical – it had an air of magic in it from the beginning, something that was enhanced by the holidays, and Christmas approaching – it rocked like all get-out but it also had quiet moments of intimacy between the Boss and the audience that I’ve never seen another artist reproduce… the stories he told captured the mythos of American Youth and had people transfixed… at one point he came out onto the main floor about 100 feet in front of the stage, in the center of the audience, told a story, and sang a solo song and it felt like he was right there in your living room singing… and the band was so amazingly tight, the sound perfect… and they played one long encore. Then, at about 1:30 in the morning, after all the lights had come on, and practically half the place had emptied out, we were sitting there stunned, shaking our heads, and the band came back out, with towels around their necks, plugged in again, and tore the house down as people began rushing back inside to catch what I told myself on the spot was the most amazing show I would ever see… and to this day it remains so. I believe they ended sometime before 3am and I don’t remember how I got home or whether I slept that night…

I'm not a hard core Springsteen fan, but his '78 Darkness on the Edge of Town Tour was the greatest ever rock tour. Nothing comes close to it.

this concert was my first time hearing Bruce it was a friday night and I was listening to radio with not much catching my ear. Back then my tuner had a big dial you would use to change channels with and when I was bored I used just spin the dial and see what came on. Well this night I spun the dial and caught Springsteen live and two hours later after some of the most exciting music I had ever heard I was hooked. The next morning I was at the record store (yes record store) when it opened and came back with my first Springteen music. Since then I Have seen Bruce 23 times, and as long as he keeps playing I will keep going to his shows. I saw him this April in San Jose and it was one of the best shows I have ever seen.

Saw Bruce in Hyde Park London this year. 9th Bruce Show, he walked on and launched straight into the Clash London Calling and conquered the audience in the first 5 notes. The man is a legend and with the likes of Neil young will we ever witness this kind of magic again

That guitar solo on "Prove it all Night" could cut steel. Amazing. I never thought of Bruce as an axe virtuoso, while he'll never be up there with Clapton, Eddie V., Hendrix, or even Martin Barre, this was some good work.
