Concert Summary

Get comfortable, 'cuz all the stories are true - the E Street Band came to play, and they're not gonna stop until the roof caves in! This is powerful rock 'n' roll revivalism and Springsteen makes the heat rain down upon the assembled Winterland parishioners.

Years before punk deconstructed popular music as a violent protest against the bloated rock 'n' roll dinosaurs staggering from stadium to stadium, Bruce Springsteen was earnestly providing his own alternative to bone-headed riffing and cowbell solos, putting out…entire summary

The Winterland show(s) in December 1978 can be found on a vinyl (3 record) bootleg called Piece de Resistance. I have had it on vinyl for 30 years and haven't played it in a long time. BTW ... saw Bruce and Joe Grushecky (Houserockers) in Pittsburgh at a 2000 seat hall in November 2010 and November 2011. The 2nd night in 2011 Bruce played 3.5 hours (no kidding!) and there is a venue to get those recordings as well. Post if you are interested.

This is without a doubt one of the greatest live concerts ever, and one of the best concerts here on the Vault, and I'm not even that big a Springsteen fan. Every once in a while, an artist and an audience are in exactly the same place, and this is one of those nights--it was a love-in. He was putting out such positive energy and the crowd was multiplying it and sending it back and it just kept getting bigger and bigger. You can hear it.
This one and the Stones one from '73 (the only one with Mick Taylor) are a couple of my favorites. Good stuff!

The transition from Racing to Thunder Road in this show still brings a chill down my spine ever since I heard it on a vinyl bootleg 30 years ago...

This Springsteen at his best. The band performs a flawless show. So many great role players in his band. The drums in She's the One is like thunder. Roy Bittan incredible timing playing the right line at the right time is what makes peolpe great. Clarence sax solos, how sad to know he's gone. The solo's just close your eyes, you can see the big man standing there. Just wonderful to listen again and re-live a simpler younger life.

great concert, great band, I was at Hammersmith in 1975 for the first big UK breakthrough and have seen Bruce at least 5 times since. Amazing,

Just an Amazing show. I was fortunate to see the Darkness tour in Minneapolis. Clarence sax solos are truely incredible moments in te songs. With Roy Bittan keyboards where background or lead establish such a mood for each song in stunning timing. Bruce & the E street band at their very best.

This was by far one of the best shows of Bruce and the Band I ever saw. I remember being part of the floor crowd which got to hand pass Bruce across the stage. Winterland made the show a classic. Thanks for bring back the memories.
