Concert Summary

Consisting of only five songs, this powerful showcase set by Canadian singer/songwriter Bruce Cockburn came shortly after the artist had taken a sabbatical to Nicaragua to perform humanitarian work. While there, he witnessed a brutal civil war where millions of refugees were brutally killed by both rebel and government forces.

This show, recorded at Chicago's Park West theater for the King Biscuit Flower Hour, reflects the stark reality he witnessed, and features some of the best material Cockburn has ever written…entire summary

Hey, Wolfgang - how do I contribute the missing songs?

I remember hearing this original broadcast on the radio back when I was stocking shelves overnight in a supermarket. It was the first time hearing him and I was hooked. To Raindance: I totally agree.

I recorded this concert off the radio - there are a bunch of songs missing from this show that absolutely floored me. Grim Travelers, Lord of the Starfield, To Raise the Morning Sun are missing - I'm sure that if this was for KB, there is an entire 2 hour concert somewhere... Because of this show, I've seen BC 7 times and bought 6 CDs. The Park West is a nice club in Chicago - Poi Dog Pondering has a terrific 2 CD show titled "Liquid White Light" that was recorded there. I believe Derek Trucks also recorded a live CD there.

I like this concert. I've seen Bruce twice, in Victoria, BC Canada, first in the early 80s, then in Fall 2006. The second particularly was mind blowing... he played with Julie Wolf, former Ani Difranco keyboardist and singer, and a drummer/percussionist whose name I don't remember. Sweet! I've been really enjoying Bruce on youtube lately as well. Poet Laureate of Canada, I say! Seamas

"Got to kick at the darkness 'til it bleeds daylight" may be the greatest rockandroll lyric ever!

Bruce is an amazing artist. Is there any way that the vault can get any concerts from the 70's on here?

There are not enough words to describe pure brilliance in artistry....two words come to mind here....Bruce Cockburn!

Have been a fan of Bruce for over 20 years now and find it disheartening that main street America still hasn't found the joy of his music. His social commentary is right up front where it should be. The Trouble With Normal has been a favorite of mine ever since first hearing it in 1979. I still have my LP collection and am proud to say that Cockburn is represented with 15 titles, (the rest I've had to buy on CD, ugh).

My friends The Banana Brothers opened for Bruce at the Moore Theater in Seattle in 1985...he had added a Chapman Stick player at that time...who knocked my socks off at the sound check by playing Christmas Carols...was an absolute pleasure meeting the man...thanks for the memory.
