Concert Summary

This late show from Boston's 1977 appearance in Long Beach was recorded while the band was making Don't Look Back, their second multi-platinum release, which was released that year. The band was still promoting the first album, and most of this show consists of songs from that classic Boston record. One that yielded such hits as "More Than A Feeling," "Rock and Roll Band," "Something About You," "Smokin'," and "Long Time." They do, however, offer up "A Man I'll Never Be," which, at the time, had yet to be recorded.

This recording proves that while the band may have been the…entire summary

A lot of friends of mine always would say that they didn't think Brad's gift for vocals was "real" after hearing this repeatedly as the "only" live Boston recording for years and years. I have to admit that the vocal effect you hear in Tom's studio production isn't exactly what you hear on this recording, and that's kind of troubling. Again, I'd love WV to somehow get its hands on a Third Stage tour recording because truly, the Delp-Scholz magic sounded a great deal like what you heard on record.

Tom , Barry , Brad , Sib , Jim ........ thanks for the mems man , RIP Brad , you will be remembered ....... This is one of the better recordings of Boston from that time period . Annehiem was too big , Brad couldnt hear himself , a lot of times the Band got out of sync and out of tune , But later the SAME Day , they Play this gig in Long Beach , and rocked the house ......... This is the recording to get if you want Boston Live .

Yea it would be great if Tom could remixed this songs and released them on cds, or mp3s. Boston fans would be totally pleased. I think had Tom not being such a complete control freak, and a obsessive perfectionist, there might have been more Boston lps. Barry and Tom trading guitar licks on albums, now that would have been awesome!. So yeah we could thank Tom for the great music he gave us, but on the other hand, he also ruined Boston. Tom had asked Brad Delp to sing on the 'Walk On' cd, but Brad refused; claiming he was busy doing work with Barry Goudreau and RTZ. I would not have been surprise if Brad was fed up with Tom's nonsense.

Great concert. Those were definitely some of the best days for concerts in history. Interesting crowds, great bands, common culture. W-O-W

I'd seen Boston 10 or 12 times over the course of time since 1976 and always wondered why the late concert from Long Beach was the only live recording of the group. Truly, the band was a great live monster and this show didn't really do their sound justice. Thanks to WV, there are a couple more early years recordings but I'd love to hear something from Third Stage, when Brad and Tom really found their groove. While I don't know for sure, I'd bet that Tom would find some of the info in the review to be in error. Really, he and Brad WERE Boston in every way and I would seriously doubt that a "reunion of the original line-up" was ever going to take place. Unless I am mistaken, the original demos--which sound awfully close to the debut LP--were just Tom, Brad and Jim Masdea. As years have gone by, I have come to appreciate so many things about this great group. The idea that they came out of nowhere. The idea that their songs stand the test of time and are still phenomenal. The idea that Brad was not only a great singer, but a great human being. The idea that Tom had to continually fight so hard to keep hold of what was truly his. I admire the fact that he stood and fought people who tried to cash in on his genius. I just wish there would have been more real Boston to listen to over the years. Maybe in the next life.

Without a doubt...BOSTON...was "thee" definition of a straight ahead ass kicking ROCK N ROLL band. W/screaming guitars and lyrics you could understand and relate to...it doesn't get any better then this if you like hard driving rock n roll. I saw Boston 4-5 times over the years. Sadly the best concerts were in the earlier years of the band. The last tour, When they started innovating w/the tempo of the songs they got into trouble w/the crowd. But....to this day...if I want to pick up my gloomy mood...I just crank up some Boston. And I know...it's more then a feeling [huge grin]...
