Concert Summary

Bob Marley had gone from "critic's darling" and "buzz-driven roots rocker" to bona fide reggae superstar by the time he arrived in Oakland, California in the fall of 1979 to perform this show with his band, The Wailers. Record executive Chris Blackwell might have discovered Marley in his native Jamaica and exposed him to a massive global audience, but it was rock icons like Eric Clapton, who were singing both his praises…entire summary

as a white boy whose goal it is to visit every carib island by the time i leave this earth (over 50% accomplished),i am absolutely amazed at how his music has stood the test of time and remains such a strong positive force in that area of the globe as well as the rest of the free world

I saw Bob Marley & the Wailers at Miami Jai-Alai Fronton in 1978. I was working with a local sound company and we provided extra microphones, mic cables and mic stands. We stayed and watched the show, it was phenomenal, had my hair standin' up straight, totally electrifying...! One interesting note was that he played "I Shot the Sheriff," in the Eric Clapton vein(rock) rather than his usual "Reggae" version.
Another time I was on my way home from work in Miami at 2:30am(sous chef at nightclub), stopping at a 7-11 for some munchies, I was walking out to my car, my former girlfriend still inside buying something. I look up as I'm about to open my car door and Al Anderson(lead guitar The Wailers) is standing there saying hello to me...? I say hello and as my former girlfriend walks out she says hey to Al and gives him a hug...!?(she's a West Indian Jamaican from Kingston) She told me later she had gone out on a couple dates with him years earlier in Kingston...
    BMW...!!
