Concert Summary

Recordings of the 13th concert of Bob Dylan's 1995 Spring Tour of the United States have been held in high esteem among Dylan collectors ever since the performance occurred, with direct line feed recordings rapidly making the rounds and eventually appearing under numerous illegitimate bootleg titles. Performing outdoors on the first night of the annual Laguna Seca Daze music festival on the beautiful Monterey peninsula, Dylan headlined an impressively diverse quadruple bill that featured opener Beth Hart followed by te Black Crows and George Clinton & te P-Funk All-Stars (also available…entire summary

I was lucky enough to be at this show. I had really low expectations going into it. I'd always heard he was really unpredictable live and that his voice was shot. I couldn't believe how amazing he sounded that night. Plus the festival was very sparsely attended. There were a lot of older people there who were happy to just kick back in their lawn chairs so my brother and I got to stand right up against the stage. It was a beautiful, warm spring night and I stood right at his feet for the whole set. I'll never forget him playing "Mr. Tambourine Man" just as the sun began to set; it was truly one of the most magical experiences I've ever had at a show. I've had many opportunities to see him since, but I don't want to. I would never want to spoil the pristine memory I have of this performance by seeing a lesser one. Thank you so much for sharing this show.

Wow! I've listened to Dylan for years and for some reason have never heard the sound that he makes here with this awsome band. The renditions and singing (arrangements and intonations) make some of these classics completetly new. I love "Simple Twist of Fate" all over again! "Sylvio" always sounded trite to me, but here it has muscle and and the lyrics come through with a depth I didn't hear in other plays. Fun discovery.
