Concert Summary

Travel back to 1974 and Bob Dylan's return to the stage following a seven-and-a-half-year touring hiatus. As Dylan and the Band journeyed across North America during the first two months of that year, expectations were tremendous. The tour was the hottest ticket in town, so much so that the US post office had to set up extra mailboxes for ticket orders in many of the major cities. Over five million paid mail orders were reportedly sent in for the 650,000 tickets available over the course of the tour, making them the most in-demand ticket in the history of rock music. Saw them at the Cap Centre in Landover, MD. Psyched, but asshole Dylan wouldn't even play ONE fucking song like I was hearing it in my head from his albums. How can you sing along if the melody's all wrong. Wow, nice lyric.

I have to agree with John of Milpitas that there is very little real emotion is most of Dylan's performances. He approaches every song the same and I find it very unsatisfying. I know that this is generally his MO for live shows but I thought it might be better back in '73. The guy is an absolute genius but that genius seems to be better realized in the studio.

  • IF NOT FOR YOU | Tuesday, March 22, 2011 | 12:00 am

The intensity Dylan gives in every song here is utterly amazing. He & The Band I don't think have ever been matched.

As Dylan plays the accustic songs from his roots we are reminded that no one can take a song & set it as a dire emotional torn story as he can. A talent which we shall never see again in our lifetime or possibly any lifetime. Gates of Eden, Just Like A Women & It's All Right, Ma are totally flawless.

As Dylan approaches his 70th birthday this concert is truly a piece of American history.
