Concert Summary

Journey back to 1974 and Bob Dylan's return to the stage following a seven-and-a-half year touring hiatus. As Dylan and The Band made their way across North America during the first two months of that year, expectations were tremendous. The tour was the hottest ticket in town, so much so that the US post office had to set up extra mailboxes for ticket orders in many of the major cities. Over five million paid mail orders were reportedly sent in for the 650,000 tickets available over the course of the tour, making them the most in-demand ticket in the history of rock music. Forty concerts…entire summary

It's considered bad form to express disgust and contempt for the music scene today, most of 'em ain't old enough to drink. Not to pick on anyone in particular, but I hope the Jonas Bros get strep throat and then gang kiss Taylor Swift, who then throws up all over everyone at the American Music Awards. So I'll just listen to these amazing Dylan & The Band shows and dream of the day when the sun will rise on a world worth getting out of bed for. Yeah, I ended that sentence on a preposition, eat me.

This sounds like Dylan performed by Alvin and the Chipmunks- too darn fast, almost a parody of his songs. I an barely hear The Band behind Dylan's almost hysterically voiced speeded up versions of his great folksongs- no wonder people were upset when he went electric.

Saw the 74 tour in St Louis. I'll never forget when the house lights came up to end the show with Dylan belting out Like a Rolling Stone. The crowd standing, singing, going crazy. I remember it like it was yesterday. Was also the first show I ever remember seeing where everyone held up lighters in tribute. Changed my life. I've been following Bob ever since. Saw him this summer in E. St Louis and Rothbury. Heading to Vegas next month for the show at the Joint. Keep going Bob!

I have a bootleg of this show. An audience recording. You can hear clearly the reactions and comments of people in the crowd around the taper. People are obviously moved. One guy sounds like he's in the throes of ecstasy at the beginning of every song.

I saw this tour at the Capitol Center in Dec.'73. The memorable moments were during "It's Alright Ma..." when Dylan sang "even the President of the United States must stand naked" (this being the heigth of Watergate) the crowd erupted with approval, then the encore Like A Rolling Stone with 20,000 people on their feet and singing along. They opened and closed with Most LIkely You'll Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine.

hey mickeyT, there were 2 shows (4 sets total) recorded on 2/14/74. Both sets from the afternoon show went up on Tuesday (9/8) and both sets from the evening show were added today (9/11). The evening show has a few extra songs - Most Likely You Go Your Way, Mr. Tambourine Man, Gate of Eden, Don't Think Twice, and a nice little segment where Dylan invites Bill Graham on stage to thank him for putting the tour together. The early show has a performance of It's All Over Now Baby Blue that isn't played in the late show. Otherwise the setlists are very similar, but they are different performances. All 4 sets kick ass :) Enjoy! -pete
