This tremendously significant rock group under the able direction of Al Kooper (on organ and synthesizers) had a horn section and a traditional rock rhythm section. Started in 1967, they set a standard for jazz-rock. Its initial concept was to use jazz techniques under the guise of a rock band. Their music's most important characteristic was that it was highly technical, far surpassing the general level of musicianship in rock music in 1967.
