Concert Summary

Despite their recent forays into such conventional ventures as a (rather demure) appearance at 2006's Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies, Deborah Harry and Blondie were once a cutting edge new wave act - and mainstay at clubs like the legendary CBGBs in New York City. Whereas other early punk bands like The Ramones and The Sex Pistols were too raw for most mainstream…entire summary

Blondie played the bay area often...the Mabuhay, Zellerbach on the UC campus @ Berkeley, opened for Iggy/Bowie @ the Berkeley Community Theatre, couple of shows at The Old Waldorf that KSAN recorded & broadcasted, Santa Cruz & many more ....always a fun time..some pix I took are on my website...peterstupar.com

Clem Burke is one of the best drummers ever. I'm Always Touched by (former bassist) Gary Valentine is one of their better songs. Blondie lost it after the closing of the Eat to the Beat tour in 1980. The Hunter and Island of Lost Souls albums sucked, then they broke up.

I saw her open for Iggie POP with Bowie playing backup in Cambridge in 1978. Best show I ever saw. Then again, I saw her a year ago 29 years later in Hyannis Cape Cod. WOW, what a time travel thing. She rocked!

I met Debbie back in 1975 backstage at the Houston Music Hall. I did interviews for the college paper but had not been able to hook-up to schedule it. I started talking to Debbie anyway but told her I would not publish. She came across as a gentle and demure lady. After about 5-6 minutes she said she wanted to hear the follow-up band play, and gave me a Rose from a dozen she had been given. I kept it until it crumbled.

Love the early "New Wave" stuff. Nice and gritty. Once saw Blondie open for Rush (Jan of 1979) - what a mis-match. Then saw them in 1982 at JFK stadium in Philly with Genesis, Elvis Costello, A Flock of Seagulls and a pretty good local group called Robert Hazard & The Heroes. Blondie was great at this show. And tonight, they are actually playing here in Albuquerque on the Benatar/Blondie tour (with The Donnas). Rock On!
