Concert Summary

This complete concert featuring the original lineup of Black Sabbath was recorded at the historic California Jam Festival, which today remains the only rock festival staged on behalf of a television series. The idea was to have a massive one-day music fest that would be videotaped and then shown for several weeks, one act at a time, as an entire season of the late night ABC music program IN CONCERT. The show, in addition to being free of the ugly incidents that plagued events like Altamont, was also a substantial…entire summary

Bad ass version of sweet leaf!! I bet it totally kicked ass watching it played at that show. I did see them ten or show years ago but it was not any thing like this sounds.

Sound quality not withstanding, this is an awesome recording. The only other live Sabbath recording that I like better is the Paris 1970 show floating around. That is an excellent video. Young, raw and tight as hell. Ward didn't even have a riser. This '74 show is great despite Ozzy's obvious vocal straining and you can't even hear the bass-- but any live Sabbath w/ Ozzy is amazing. This show is a real jammer. Best part is "I'm happy" which they only do live and kicks ass. Even though the sound quality isn't that good, the fact that the show is complete more than makes up for it. The little things like Ozzy screaming GET HIGH!!! between songs is great stuff.

Performance was good, Ozzy was in top form, Bass is none existent, and I have a great sub woofer so if there was any bass I would have heard it. but lots of fun to listen to.

I saw this show and I was only 13 years old at the time. Never really knew of sabbath then but afterwards I became a real fan. I now live 1 mile from the now defunct ontario motor speedway. I also met Bill Ward in 1987 when he was doing a project with Tim Bogart. He was fresh out of rehab and freaked out during the 3rd song and D J Bonebrake had to jump up and finish the set. I saw them a couple times after that

Just the thought of seeing Black Sabbath back in the day...Insanely unreal!!! Thanks for sharing--all who left entries! I was just shy of seeing them starting high school in 1980. Chances are I would not have remembered as much detail as is on these recordings....Ha Ha. I listened to my cassette tapes of Sabbath so much I had to buy new ones to replace them (for those of you before CD's). These recordings are the best live material by Ozzy Sabbath I have ever heard. Thank you Concert Vault! You kick A! Keep it coming...as well...
