Concert Summary

Between 1972 and 1977, Black Oak Arkansas blasted its way around the world with a guitar-heavy brand of swamp rock. This show, recorded shortly after the band released its popular live album, came with the momentum of a much ballyhooed appearance at California Jam in front of 600,000 crazy fans.

A cross between Lynyrd Skynyrd and Thin Lizzy (with a touch of the Allmans thrown in for good, guitar-dueling…entire summary

BOA gets lost as one of the great southern rock bands. Listen to the harmonies on Dixie

Tommy Aldridge was, is, a hell of a drummer. Every drummer in our neighborhood tried to play hot and nasty with one foot. The total sound created by this band was really awesome. Saw them at the philly spectrum many times.

Saw Black Oak live in Seattle Circa 1971 ........... I think as the opening act for Grand Funk. Can't remember because it was pretty hazy at the Key Arena!!! Jin Dandy was certainly stoned, and so was I. Now, Grand Funk was Fabulous, but Black Oak was, say "unusual" ........... full of energy, and abolsutely out of sight. I won't say that they stole the show, but it was definitely two concerts for the price of one. Cetainly one of my all-time favorite, take me back to my roots, band!!!

A great funky, blues, innovative southern spiced unit. These band of musicians sizzled live. Whats happened to the heart of rock and roll? Wolfmother, save us!

oops...maybe that was the Academy of Music, not the Beacon..whichever one was around 14th st?

Saw BOA at the Beacon Theatre in NY, must have been in '71 or '72, with Roy Wood's Wizzard, and the debut of some kid from Long Island named Billy Joel. He obviously didnt fit that show, and he also sucked. He did an atrocious imitation of the Duke, singing a song called "John Wayne Blues". Hate him to this day!

The girl I took was quite taken with what Jim Dandy had in his pants..I still insist it was a sock!
