Anonymous is an idiot. If they wanted their opinion to count, stand up and be heard... and not anonymous. I recently found out about the Black Angels and I think they are great. This live show is right on. Sounds like the recorded music which really makes me happy. If you like Psychedelic music they do a great job. I love the dark feel they add to it also. I give this show a 5 out of 5 stars because they ended it so well with Never/Ever. That song is freaking awesome.

Interesting...drums seem to be the lead instrument...out front and most audible...the ghost of Nico singing...early Stooges guitars...if that's that they're looking to do, then they've accomplished it...

Hmmm. It never ceases to amaze me how subjective music is. Here we have two completely different opinions - one highly in favor of and one decidely against - The Black Angels. I would tend to agree the B A's don't exactly exhibit virtuoso musicianship but they do fairly reek of inspiration. Having been around in the 60's I have worshipped at the church of rock n roll during this lifetime and the B A's do seem to be one of the few new bands I've heard that have captured a spirit from that era. Be it good or bad that's for the listener to decide. I, however, like them. I like the way they drone on and create a groove. Besides, some of the worst guitar playing ever recorded is on that famous first Velvet Underground album with that lost soul Nico. I still listen to it now and then. Rock on, Black Angels, rock on.

Actually the Black Angels 1st record came out at least 3 years before this show The reason this wouldn't blow your mind is because, quite frankly, the Black Angels suck. They are popular on a very small level, but popularity doesn't equal good or talented. They are boring and the musicianship is at a beginner level. To have them in the same statement as Tool "two live bands I will NEVER miss..." is ridiculous. Tool has talent and ability the Black Angels are rank amateurs. The playing on this recording is laughable. People who think this band is in any way "damn good" do not know a thing about music. Any 14 year old kid who has played for a couple of months could do this. That is exactly what they sound like 14 year olds who have only played for a couple of months. The so called "visual mindf**k" is just a crappy 60's style psychedelic light show. If it was 1965 this might be somewhat interesting, but this was recorded in 2008, so this just sucks. Austin used to have cool bands, like back in the 80's and early 90's when bands like Ed Hall and Crust were playing psychedelic punk rock and putting on shows that were a spectacle. They had energy and the guys in Crust would perform using instruments they made themselves. That was experimental not this half baked rip off of the Velvet Underground.

Good sound, Black Angels put on a wicked simple psyk show... but this show was for the first album, the tour for the second album was when they really started to blast-off and blow the audience minds. That's not to say this is a bad gig, but half the live experience is the visual mindf**k and narcoleptic headbanging (thank god 'Shoegazer' finally gave way to it's 70's heavy metal roots)... so unless you've actually been to a show, it's hard to fully appreciate what these authentic Austin psyk fanatics are really up to... but trust me, they're damn good. Nowadays, there's only two live bands I will NEVER miss... Tool, and The Black Angels... all the rest are just posing, or unfinished. Turn on, Tune In, Drone out.
