Bette Midler

Bette Midler began her multifaceted, multi-genre career on Broadway in the 1960s. Living in New York City, she developed a variety act working in nightclubs, and her first album, the Divine Miss M, was released in '72 to mark the beginning of her highly successful recording career. In '79, Milder starred in The Rose, Janis Joplin's fictionalized life story, and the film's title track became a Top Ten hit. Midler starred in a number of movies throughout the '80s; Beaches, one her most successful films, introduced the inspirational anthem "Wind Beneath My Wings." Midler continued recording in the '90s, scoring another hit with "From a Distance," and has developed a devoted fan base by virtue of her vocal and acting talent, her quick wit, and her no-nonsense approach to hard work.
