Concert Summary

This is the first of a few shows recorded by the Baker Gurvitz Army for live broadcast on the BBC, and, later, the King Biscuit Flower Hour. Spearheaded by Cream skin-basher Ginger Baker, the BG Army had enormous promise when they formed, but, in the end, never lived up to the hype. This show, recorded at the University of Reading, features some strong performances, especially a version of the …entire summary

BG Army was scheduled to open for Aerosmith at a concert I attended in Mount Pleasant Michigan in Spring, 1975, apparently just after this concert. They canceled at the last minute and Ted Nugent stepped in. The "Motor City Madman" was great but I will always regret not seeing Ginger Baker. This great broadcast makes me feel even worse to miss the band.

Willyboz60 My mistake, it wasn't the bottom line it was the Ritz where Ginger did toad. I went to see the Jack Bruce Band and Ginger wasn't even suppose to play. He showed up and took over for Jack's drummer on the second set. Made Jack's drummer watch in ahor, Kind of showed him how the drums can be puished to their limit. Jacks drummer just watched in amazement as Ginger whaled on the drums. Jdawson36@aol.com

To: willyboz60, That's not Snips on vocal's with Mad Jack A-hole. It's Ginger. Saw him do it myself at the old Calderone in Nassau County 1974. Saw Ginger play 3 times live, with Jack Bruce Band Botton Line 1989 or 90, Masters of Reality, Stony Brook U 1991 And B.G.A. 1974. By far the best drummer that ever lived. He did toad w/Jack unbelieveable. JD
