Concert Summary

At this point in his career, B.B. King had already crossed over to young white audiences through his 1968 appearance at the Newport Folk Festival and his subsequent appearances at Bill Graham's Fillmore West on bills with the hottest contemporary rock artists of the day. In 1969, he opened 18 American shows for the Rolling Stones, which brought him to a higher level of visibility in this country. I saw this basic show a few years earlier in downtown St. Louis. A near-religious experience that I'll never forget. And I've seen Hound Dog Taylor, Johnny Shines, Roosevelt Sykes Muddy, Albert and Freddie as well....

It's nice to see the complete recording of this show. I had the last 20 minutes of this in my collection. I wish more BB from the 70's would surface. Almost every show he performed from 1970 to today has been recorded in some format. His archives are just waiting to see the light of day.

Just a slight correction to the above concert summary: it was the original "Funky Drummer" Clyde Stubblefield who played on (the initial) version of James Brown's 'Cold Sweat', not "Jabo" Starks; you'd think a music scholar like Mr. Milkowski would know that since the classic drum pattern in Cold Sweat is so legendary!

Great B.B. concert here by the way, maybe just a little too "slick" for my tastes though...

This gig just oozes and oozes and oozes and oozes feel, soul and blues. What do you say people? Why does it always bring tears to my eyes immediately after the line ''I gave you 7 children and now you want to give'em back''?

can just see BB doing that finger thing on the frets and clapping only the way he does. saw him twice in 85' and was mesmerized by his presence.
