Concert Summary

Axe was typical of many of the hair metal bands that emerged in the early and mid-1980s. Inspired by the seemingly overnight success of MTV, Axe fit the bill for loud, hard rock bands with spandex and high hair, and songs about groupies and cars. They had all of this, and then some, but they never scored a huge radio hit, despite several attempts to get there by the band itself and their record company. Emerging from a Florida band called Babyface, Axe came together quickly when guitarist/vocalist Bobby Barth grabbed a few other members of that band to form Axe in 1978.

What a great memory. Saw these guys open on a triple show. The other two bands were Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest! I believe it was 1982 or 83. It was one of the last concerts ever at the old Chicago Ampitheater. Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a gem! Barth has gone on to front a Medlocke-less Blackfoot. I never considered Axe a hair metal band. They were to gritty for that and much of their music had a heavier edged .38 Special/Molly Hatchet thang going on. Their song "Heat In The Street" got me in alot of trouble in high school!

We listen to every second, lamermichel. This was an error on our part; we knew it was Dallas, but the venue is the same name as one in Cleveland (in fact there was an Agora in New Haven, CT also) and we indavertently cataloged it to the Agora in Cleveland. It's been fixed.

i don?t really remeber them as a hairmetal-band. they were those bearded harley-guys, weren?t they? i like barth?s melodic playing. the concert summary is wrong: the last osbourne-album was "nemesis".

Tape operators should stop drinking : we can hear clearly the speaker (at the beginning) and Bobby Barth (at the end) thanking Dallas not Cleveland ! Does anybody listen to the tapes before putting them on line ?
