Concert Summary

Ashford & Simpson were one of the few songwriting teams from the golden age of pop and R&B to make the transition to performing artists, although they waited nearly a decade to do it. The duo will always be best known for the classic Motown hits they wrote for popular, top selling artists; however, the material they cut for their own records was often just as compelling and infectious.     I was there. The Bottom Line is where I worked. These two were total magic together. I had goose bumps most of the time.

    Are you NUTS??? Valerie Simpson not having an incredible vocal range? Clean out your ears! There are few who can match her!

    Though they write a good song in a radio format - neither had a mystique or incredible vocal range to make it as a lasting performing duo - Especially over some of these indulgent numbers ('So so Satisfied' not particularly) Decent soul arrangements would have worked better in a time period not affected by middling disco-funk mandatories.
