Deep-toned guitar riffs and yowling, at times defensively off-key lyrics of anguish and dark fantasy become this band's private patch in the increasingly specialized rock music genre. Nurtured along the way by original members John 'Ozzy' Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, and 'Geezer' Butler, the British group gained quick popularity on both sides of the Atlantic and weathered a revolving door of artists including several ins-and-outs by Ozzy and Geezer. Iommi is the constant who assembled and reassembled the line-up over multiple years, albums, threatened reunions, re-issues, and break-ups, and Black Sabbath has, of course, been a feature in Ozzfests.
