Wow, I have listened to this album so many times (although mostly a different set) it is fantastic to actually see the film footage. What a performance. What a performer. She was 28 and this was her first predominantly white audience. She said she was worried until it all came off so well. I wish I could have been there!

Very sad and bittersweet to hear 'Retha introducing King Curtis...saying they will likely play together for years to come... ..and yet 5 months later - he was murdered in NYC... (I half expect Duane Allman to walk out and play- having worked with both 'Retha and King)

Not only Aretha but an all star band: King Curtis, Bernard Purdie, Billy Preston, Cornell Dupree and the Memphis Horns (among talented others) . Called the Kingpins they opened for Aretha and KILLED IT. Get the CD Aretha Franklin & King Curtis Live at the Filmore West.
