I was in attendance this night and the first night. There were many African American people at these shows with Black Panther berets and black leather jackets. I was a young 19 year old white kid musician later playing drums for Grunt Records and on Bourbon St for years. Drummer Bernard Purdie playing with this marvelous band - Aretha out front playing electric piano, King Curtis, Billy Preston, the horns, the great guitarist and bassist kickin ass, WOW. I can be heard making a very high Wooo on the released recording before the rest of the crowd as I was standing holding onto the stage nest to Billy Preston on the side transfixed on this incredible act. The crowd, my friends, and I were completely knocked out. I had never gone back to Fillmore West two nights in a row before. I am sure glad I did. Tower of Power had the great Ricky Stevens on lead vocal. It was the first time I had seen them. Dave Garibaldi and crew were fabulous as an opening act. At this point in time it had only been two years since white and black musicians could play together in New Orleans. My how the times have changed. Obama President! The Dream is AlivThanke.

Obviously the music presented here is beautiful. It's too bad the quality of the recording is so poor but it should be here as a historic document if nothing else.
