Starting out in Chicago, the cash-poor Miller made his way to San Francisco where he put together the Steve Miller Blues Band in January, 1967. Playing the Fillmore by April and booked for the Monterey Pop Festival in June, Miller quickly made music industry history by demanding, and signing, the most lucrative contract to date on Capitol Records' books. Miller added high school friend Boz Scaggs to the band, dropped "Blues" from the name and released "Children of the Future" to immense acclaim in May, 1968. The Band changed line-ups frequently over the years and the stress of managing, writing and recording led Miller to take a hiatus or two since 1982, but the band is still going strong with studio and live releases.
