Emerging on the San Francisco music scene with a sound vastly different from the acid-rock fans' accustomed fare, the Santana Blues Band attracted the attention of Latin-music buff Bill Graham during afternoon auditions at the Fillmore. They made their first appearance there as a last-minute replacement in 1967. Led by blues guitarist Carlos Santana, the original lineup included vocalist Gregg Rolie, bassist David Brown, drummer Bob Livingston, percussionist Chepito Areas and Michael Carabello on congas.
