Ry Cooder is a virtuoso on fretted instruments, with a lunging, syncopated style. He began playing guitar when he was three years old. In the early sixties Cooder became active in Southern California blues and folk circles. He also worked for Gordon Lightfoot and on numerous commercials, and briefly joined Captain Beefheart's Magic Band in 1967. Since 1969, when he got a solo contract, Cooder has cut down on session work to concentrate on his yearly albums....less
