Dueling high school vocalists turned rap duet Andre 3000 [Andre Benjamin] and Big Boi [Antwan Patton] left local Atlanta fame behind with their 1993 smash single "Players Ball". After winning Best New Rap Group of the Year in 1995, more chart-toppers followed with ATLiens, Aquemini and Stankonia released in two-year intervals through 2000. Outkast's creative output is generally regarded as more positive and melodic than most rap, and their theme-driven Southern accent has had the effect of elevating the genre. The group has not been untouched by controversy however, and survived a 1998 suit filed by pioneer Rosa Parks over the usage of her name in a title song....less
