Jeff Beck replaced Eric Clapton in the Yardbirds and eventually went on to form his own group in 1967. A guitar hero, Beck produced hard-edged blues, reworking blues standards in a tumultuous, shattering style. Although each new incarnation of the Jeff Beck Group would end quickly, the first group, with Ron Wood and Rod Stewart, was probably the most exciting musically.
