Concert Summary

Next to The Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive, April Wine racked up more hits than any other Canadian band. They were the first group to have a platinum album in Canada, and the first to launch a tour that grossed over $1 million. This recording, one of a number of shows captured by the King Biscuit Flower Hour, was made while the band was promoting Power Play, their last album to have any substantial chart activity. Although they would write and record one more…entire summary

Zilla, comparing April Wine and Rush is like comparing apples and oranges. Two completely different sounds. Both great bands, for sure.

But I like oranges better as they contain more juice and are softer on the old teeth. So you see, you can compare anything and everything, if in the right context.

April Wine - A GREAT band that never got close to it's due. First Glance, I believe their 1978 album, is a staple in my classic rock repertoire. I love the whole album, but if you can find the original recordings, give a listen to "Roller", "Comin' Right Down on Top of Me", "Right Down to It", and "Silver Dollar". Don't forget "I like to Rock" from the Harder...Faster Album either! Great stuff.

I saw April Wine back in 1981 or 1982 at a venue in Portland, Oregon called the Paramount (now it is called the Schnitzer Concert Hall) and they at the peak of their game that night. They played along and comprehensive set and the performance was very "tight". I was extremely lucky to be down front right up against the stage. I did not sit down for close to 2 hours since there was no place to sit. Let me tell you, Portland got a heaping helping of hard rock that night. Thanks Wolfgangs for bringing back at the great memories!!!!

Went to see AW twice, only saw them once. First time they were supposed to open for Foreigner but couldn't make it do to bad weather. Near riot broke out as most people were there to see AW. Someone got Rod McKuen to open and despite taking us through an amazing history of American music w/ a banjo (should have heard him cover Hendrix!) he walked off stage after getting tired of dodging whiskey bottles, fireworks etc.. I thought the place was going to come unglued. Fast forward two years later, same venue, and AW was headlining a show w/ Loverboy. Will never forget Myles Goodwyn saying he "heard we have some fans here. They think we're so good that they would pay twice to see us"! That was the "Nature of the beast" tour IIRC. Solid show but I would have to say that Loverboy gave them a run for their money. No doubt, Canadians like to rock!

Great...I still think "All Over Town" is one of the best songs ever! My daughter loved the concert too.

I saw these guys back in '81 on their "Nature Of The Beast" tour. It was my 2nd concert ever & it still ranks in my top 10 live shows ever (along w/Prince's "1999", Tubes' "Completion Backwards Principle", KISS, etc.). What a great band!
