Concert Summary

Anna Rizzo should have been a superstar. Although she is still out there doing it the hard way (most recently on the road with the reformed Kingfish and with her own project), she had a good run in the early and mid-1970s, but fame eluded her outside her home-base of San Francisco.

This recording, taken from the audio archives of the late Bill Graham, was from a November 1974 show held at the Winterland Ballroom. On the bill were the best regional female-led music acts, and included headliners Toni Brown and Terry Garthwaite (fresh from their stint in Joy of Cooking), Marin County…entire summary

I had the great good fortune to have worked with Anna, Tucki and the A-Train as their agent. And the info about Wexler is true - I spoke with him about recording Anna. To this day their music remains with me. After the break-up of the band, I was able to talk Anna and Tucki to sing at my wedding in S.F. With some prodding, the band re-united to play at the wedding reception - what a party. I only wish it had been recorded. I wish more people had had the chance to hear their unique sound and see them in concert. My best to them all. They are all great musicians and deserved better. Ken Beals

Anna Rizzo sure can sing (Grootna -> Young woman blues, wow!)and she can drum too: i saw her backing Country Joe in Paris in the mid 70s.

That's Anna Rizzo, very groovy! She can be heard in many albums of Michael Bloomfield. Her voice have the sweetness of a junkie. Very Groovy! Awesome ! Where are you, Anna ?

Austin DeLone was not the piano player for Grootna, but rather Eggs Over Easy. And Tucki Bailey played Saxaphone and Flute, not trumpet... Fabulous set! Anna was and is a star in my book. NQDEWEY

i had never heard the name before today...wow...anna's really something..i love the fact that she doesn't "oversing," a common flaw of white women trying to sound soulful....the band is no great shakes....man, if only jerry wexler HAD worked with her.....thanks, wolfgang...
