Concert Summary

In its 40-year history, Yes is one of those bands that never changed but has always been changing. Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe was one permutation of the band in this history, originally intended by Jon Anderson to a reunion of the classic 1972 lineup. However, co-owning the Yes name with original bassist Chris Squire and drummer Alan White made using the name an impossibility. After releasing a self-titled album, ABWH hit the road, billing their show as "An Evening of Yes Music Plus," which caused some legal squabbling over whether they could use "Yes" in a promotional capacity. I remember the Pay per view of this, I still have the VHS tapes of it. I missed Tony Levin, but seeing Jeff Berlin was a pleasant surprise. The stuff they were doing was a bit trite, but Close to the Edge was and still is a classic.

Incredible concert. Starts out acoustic, simple with lyrics clearly understood. Moves forward into full progressive rock style. Well done. Jon Anderson's vocals not as high and pure. Instrumentation and synthesizer music are excellent.

Accoustic concert with delicate, simple, clear, notes. Words of song are understood with clarity. This is an excellent, calm, presentation of some best known songs. Wonderful concert for any Yes fan. Their Mud Island Amphitheatre Memphis, Tn concert during their 90125 tour was a full spectrum of music complexity even though usually reserved for larger concerts arenas like in Nashville or other cities.

Doctor r: It is refreshing to read your comment about Jon Anderson, alive and well, and playing again, after being written off for dead by the current greedy members touring the sacred(to me) name - Yes! This tour with Anderson, Buford, Wakeman and Howe was a more genuine representation of a real Yes concert, as well well as promoting what was IMHO a very good CD to support the tour. I can't accept the fact that the current line-up is touring as Yes, and charging Yes-like prices for tickets, using an imitation tribute band singer, who could never fill the shoes of the undisputed spiritual voice and orchestrator of what I have considered Yes to be about! The kid has a great voice, and does a great imitation of both the sound and movements of Jon Anderson, but there can be no substitute that could make me pay to see that line-up. On the other hand, the ABWH tour to me was a genuine ode to the music of Yes, along with showcasing the talents of the individual members, with some great solos by each member. I thought it was a great show, and the DVD of the show documents how great it was. I just took a chance trying to find a recording of this line-up on Wolfgangs Vault, and was shocked, but extremely pleased to see that it actually is right here! Thank you Wolfgangs Vault, and again to Doctor r for your excellent comment. I look forward to seeing Jon Anderson in NYC whenever he might make it back to here, either solo, with an orchestra, with The Paul Green School of Music kids, or with some other great musicians, including the possibility of a reunion with the greedy members that went off without him to make a buck. Hoping Rick comes back as well. I have many favorite bands, but to see the real Yes live, or even the ABWH tour, always gave me an spiritually uplifting feeling when the shows were over - I was never dissatisfied, other than if they didn't play EVERY song they recorded. :) I hope they can come together again, even if for some select shows, as I've read is possible. If not, I will be happy to just see Jon Anderson, even if he must sing an octave or two lower. He wrote the lyrics. If I want to see a cover singer, I'll go to a club for $10 and there are many of them out there. I am insulted that the current line-up would betray the loyalty of long-time Yes fans by desecrating the name of one of the greatest progressive bands. They should have toured as "Squire, Howe, White & The Imitator!"(lol) "Nous Sommes du Soleil!" Peace
