Concert Summary

Part of a multiple-night stand recorded in Los Angeles over the 1978 July 4th holiday weekend, these tracks come from the first US tour America undertook as a duo. After nearly seven years of chart-topping success, founding member Dan Peek departed to pursue life as a born again Christian. Rather than replace Peek, Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley opted to work as a two-man group, and these recordings are the result of their initial shows.

This recording features a strong mix of material that was new at the time, as well as an assortment of the band's greatest hits. Among them are…entire summary

I saw America at Tanglewood in the 70's. No one believed me when I said they did a version of Muskrat Love. Thanks for proving it!

I saw them last year in a thousand seat hall in Houston and it was awesome. They played all the hits flawlessly and had a great spirit. They seem like really nice guys and even hung around the lobby afterwards and signed stuff and visited for quite awhile.

America is one Bada-- group-and this is from someone who listens mostly to blues and jazz these days. Sweet accoustic rock & roll in the tradition of the Everly Bros. Wish I could understand the meaning of some of these tunes, though. There ain't no one for to give you no pain????

Saw America and opener-Eric Carmen (All By Myself) back in 76 ... well I wasn't all by myself in feeling that America rocked the house. I was 14 years old and the concert (my first) was at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, now the Mellon Arena, and soon to be rubble when they open the Consol Energy Center across the street later this year. I still remember them putting the house lights on for Sister Golden Hair as the encore. My friend John and I sat apart from the adults (older teens) that we went with. I told my parents that we were sitting with them. Sorry Mom. America is ... well America at it's finest. 1976 was a great year and America helped make it that way.
