Concert Summary

This recording came from a show in London, culled from one of Alvin Lee's tours after initially leaving Ten Years After. In the same year, he crossed the pond to embark on a number of gigs for his first U.S. solo tour. Lee had done an astounding 28 U.S. tours in only seven years with TYA, and he had exploded on movie screens everywhere as part of the Woodstock documentary, so audiences everywhere were very familiar with Lee and his music.

Although TYA had seen enormous success as a live act and, to a lesser degree, as a studio band, Lee had stayed with the group longer than he felt…entire summary

Alvin is still as good as ever. His new work Saguitar and In Tennessee is great. I sure wish he would do concerts in the USA. He does em all over Europe.

Hi! Thanks for undigging Ol' Alvin. I'm a BIG TYA fan, and I think his ALVIN LEE & CO experiment was his most interesting and most diverse sounding solo effort to date. Too bad it only lasted from late 1974 to early 1975, i.e. sandwiched beteewn TYA's 1974 "Positive Vibrations" album and tour, and TYA's Aug-Sept. 1975 farewell tour. Wish Capt. Speedfingers had continued a bit in this direction as I think there was quite some potential for a positive development, with Mel Collins' cool sax, the sexy background singers etc. - not at all the speed freak show he had often been accused of while in TYA... Alas, this show here is only a portion of the 50 minutes 1975 "British Biscuit" radio show which includes a MONSTER version of LET THE SEA BURN DOWN (from 1975 solo album PUMP IRON featuring Arnie Schwarzenegger's body on the cover); this show's been making its rounds in fan circles and comes w/the below mentioned numbers. Hope you guys at WV can dig out the entire b'cast, one sunny day. BTW, Alvin once stated to that this was not a real live show but him and his CO. playing live in the studio with overdubbed audience noise. Gotta take this statement w/a pinch of salt still, I think. At least the date WV provides (1/1/75) can't be correct as Alvin started off his US tour on Jan. 2, 1975. They did a UK in March 1975 though with a Roundhouse show on March 22, 1975 and with the set list relatively heavy on tracks from PUMP IRON (marked *) which was recorded in the first half of 1975, it may be the b'cast stems from this show. Any comments, additions corrections? LET THE SEA BURN DOWN * YOU TOLD ME * HOW MANY TIMES GOING THROUGH THE DOOR I'VE GOT MY EYES FOR YOU BABY RIDE MY TRAIN JULIAN RICE * ONE MORE CHANCE * ROCK 'N' ROLL JOHNNY B GOODE Hope this helps, Th:-)mas
