I saw Albert King more times than I can count. The best show I saw was at the Jazz Workshop in S.F. Very small club, the stage was 3 feet high and about 6 feet from where I was sitting. To see his fingers work the frets was amazing.

thanks for the head's up on the lineup problems here, snakefoot. We've changed it to 'unknown backing band' for now and will hopefully be able to dig up the correct info soon. dopeburger

I did some basic research on this concert, as I was very curious to learn who is the uncredited rhythm guitarist. (I've heard some fascinating rumors.) David Hood states unequivocally that the only time he played with Albert King was during the recording of the album "Lovejoy" at Muscle Shoals Sound. This draws into serious question the accuracy of the rest of the personnel listed for the show. Apparently Wolfgang's vault has some talented fiction writers in their research department.

SRV wouldn't have made it without Albert King??? Sorry, you're an idiot. If Albert is ALL you hear in Stevie's playing than you aren't listening close enough-or you don't know as much as you think you do. I hear a hell of a lot of Buddy Guy, hendrix, Lightning Hopkins, ALL the Kings etc...he used Albert's crying lick a lot but Stevie wasn't a one trick pony. In Step PROVED he was a musical sponge from many, many sources.

I don't know. I saw Albert several times back then and, as far as I'm concerned, his best shows were in the sixties when he had a horn section. Saw him one night at the Fillmore when he ahd Booker T. and the MG's backing him up and they played all the songs from "Born on a bad sign." Later that night, B.B. King called him out for a jam. Elvin Bishop took him up but Albert never showed. Smart man!
