Aerosmith was wildly popular in the 1970s, managing to carve a punk-rock/rockin' niche for themselves in the heavy metal and arena rock of the day. In 1978, the band packed both a tour and an appearance in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band movie. In '79, however, Aerosmith reduced their tour schedule to polish "Night in the Ruts." By the time the album was released in November, Joe Perry was working on The Joe Perry Project and Jimmy Crespo was his replacement on guitar.
