Concert Summary

.38 Special came to national recognition as the Lynyrd Skynyrd empire was coming to an unfortunate and abrupt end, due to that fateful plane crash in 1977. Donnie Van Zant, younger brother of Skynyrd vocalist Ronnie Van Zant, formed .38 Special. Along with guitarists Jeff Carlisi and Don Barnes, Ronnie formed the group in 1975, but they failed to gain any real attention until they reshaped their Southern fried boogie…entire summary

This takes me back to the early 80's in a 68 Fast Back Ford Mustang driving to the lake in Northern California with a keg of beer hooked up in the trunk. Warning: That was back in the day in a small town. I would never think of doing that in the times we are at now. The world has changed but I have never forgotten my roots. I will enjoy this music till I am 80 .

My wife & several close friends saw this show in the Raleigh Dorton Arena on our honeymoon on December 11th of 1982. I always remembered their version of "Fortunate Son" as one of the best I ever heard. I never thought that I would ever hear it again. Thanks, JR - Roxboro, NC

was lucky enough to catch their only ever london date when they were supporting foreigner on the 4 tour at the hammersmith odoen.very few people in the crowd knew who they were but having front row seats i was going to enjoy them as i had all the albums on import at the time, glad to report that they lived up and beyond my expectations, highlights of the night for me was when donnie said they were going to do an instrumental named after a character from england,"anybody know it" he asked so i was the lone voice that shouted out "robin hood" did i feel a pillock as everybody looked at me like i was some kind of idiot but the laugh was on them as i got all 3 guitarists standing right in front of me playing the whole song, my own private concert, it was great, then they handed the picks to me and smug glow i got was priceless, at the end of about a 50 minute set when they said their goodbyes donnie came over and handed the remaining bottle of jack that he'd been drinking, shook my hand and the rest of the guys all came over and shook hands as well, one of the best nights at a concert of my life, just a pity that they never came back, londons lose i'm afraid but everytime i hear them the memories of that night come flooding back, happy new year guys
